Answers to some common questions

If you have a question that isn't answered here, please feel free to contact me directly.

It all depends on what sort of website you need! My fees tend to start at around £750 for relatively simple websites, and this increases according to the size and complexity of the project, how much work will be involved and how long it is likely to take. I do appreciate that every project is different, each with its own set of unique requirements and circumstances, so I'm always happy to consider bespoke, tailored pricing deals for any project if required, and especially for small businesses, new business start-ups and non-profits. View my website pricing packages to find out more about this.

For web design projects I charge 25% of the overall project fee in advance, then 25% upon approval of static design visuals and the remaining 50% upon completion of the project with all invoices payable in full within 28 days of issue.

Recurring monthly fees for SEO, content management and/or website support are all payable in full within 28 days.

Graphic design projects are billable 50% in advance and 50% upon project completion, with all invoices payable in full within 28 days of issue.

Again, it varies depending on the size and complexity of the website you want me to build. Most website projects typically last for between 2-4 weeks. I usually provide a firmer estimate of project schedule timings once I know more about what is required.

Security for most websites is provided by ensuring it has an SSL certificate. SSL protects data from being stolen, modified, or copied. No website can ever be perfectly safe, but any website that stores personal information or other sensitive data should have SSL to add a greater level of security to the site. SSL is provided free with my affiliate web hosting service, but I am happy to advise on alternative SSL arrangements and work with whichever hosting service you have chosen for your website.

I design and build every website to be as robust and bug-free as possible. But in the unlikely event that something does go wrong, then I will fix any problems for free within the first 28 days after the website has gone live. After this, I will fix any unforeseeable problems at an hourly rate of £35ph, with most problems likely to be resolved within a single hour. I also offer website support options that provide a priority service for ongoing website maintenance and optimisation.

I always recommend to my clients that they budget for installation of a content management system (CMS) when their site is built. My preferred CMS is ShiftLib CMS which allows safe and easy editorial access to site content without any coding knowledge, and fasttrack fixes for any bugs that may arise. This does add to the initial project fee, but it means you have full control over the content of your site.

Yes. Every website I create is built to conform to current W3C standards for how websites need to be semantically structured in order to be as accessible for search engines as possible, and every website I build is submitted to Google (by far the most important search engine) upon launch. I also install Google Analytics on all new websites to enable you to keep track of your website's visitor traffic. Please note that I cannot guarantee that your website will immediately appear on the first page for relevant keyword searches - this normally requires a sustained search engine optimisation campaign.

Of course. I'm always happy to help clients get the most out of what they already have rather than spend money on replacing it if it isn't absolutely necessary. If you already have a website you're happy with but feel it needs to be improved or updated, I'm very happy to discuss your options with you, explain how I can help, and make suggestions for a plan of action. If it's simply the case that you want your to site to perform better on Google, you might like to consider a campaign of search engine optimisation, tailored to suit whatever budget you have available.

What My Clients Say

Steve captured the brief perfectly and delivered a strong identity for the new organisation. It was important to us to have a powerful brand that could carry well across all marketing collateral and that has definitely been achieved. The website he created on our behalf is engaging as well as functional and has been very well received. We will definitely look to work with Steve for future projects.
